Sexual Trauma
Therapy Group for Adult Women
Laura Ranz MS,
LPCC
The objective of
this therapy group is to identify and explore the after effects of
sexual trauma.
Trauma tempts us to
split the world into heroes and villains. It impairs trust and changes
interpersonal functioning. Trauma produces after effects that impede
regulation of emotions, our perceptions, and our ability to give and
receive pleasure.
Healing begins by
acknowledging the facts of trauma and breaking the secrecy, stigma and
isolation. The group dynamics develop a safe place fostering the
ability to share the feelings associated with the trauma.
The goal is to
allow individuals the opportunity to identify what contributes to and
constitutes resilience. Through the group process, members will learn
to identify and trust the creativity within them that can facilitate
transformation.
Space will be
limited to a total of six participants. Each participant will have a
screening interview to assess needs and appropriateness of group
participation. These interviews will be scheduled for Friday, June
11, 2010.

Mindfulness for the Management of Mood
Michael Wizer, Psy.D.
This group is designed for people who
are dealing with mood regulation and ruminative thinking.
Mindfulness training consists in
developing a more watchful, and accepting attitude toward somatic and
cognitive events. Instead of impulsively reacting to unpleasant
sensations, a person can develop a more patient and accepting stance.
And instead of identifying with and believing what one thinks, a
person can develop awareness of and detachment from the contents of
thought. In a general way, through mindfulness training, skillful and
wise ways of relating to ones mind and body can develop, supporting
the progress of psychotherapy for the management of mood.
A six-week group: Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:50,
beginning April 20th. Limited to a maximum of 8 participants.
Cost: $300: $150 by April 20th, and the $150
balance by May 4th.
About Michael Wizer, Psy.D.: I am a clinical
health psychologist. My doctoral
dissertation was about
